Charles was born in New Orleans on March 12, 1934 and lived most of his life in the New Orleans/Metairie area. He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. Fasterling, Jr. and Gertrude K. Jackman, and his wife of 54 years, Barbara Greenfield Fasterling. He was a graduate of Metairie Park Country Day School and then attended Tulane University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology in 1956 and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Naval Reserve and later retired with the rank of Lt. Commander. He served in Japan and in New Orleans with the Military Sea Transportation Service before joining Southern Bell Telephone Company’s executive training program.
He went to Monroe, Louisiana as a Junior Engineer then moved to Shreveport, Louisiana and then back to the state office in New Orleans. He later went back to Tulane and earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1968 and was in private practice until 2005 when he retired and moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. He and his wife moved back to Mandeville, Louisiana in 2008. After she passed away he moved to Colorado Springs in 2011 where he was a member of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel (Episcopal).
He was a past member of Christ Church Cathedral in New Orleans where he was an acolyte and vestryman for many years. He had been a member of several carnival organizations prior to his retirement. He was also a board member of the Volunteers of America of Greater New Orleans for a number of years as well as many housing boards of Volunteers of America National.
He loved working with his hands, traveling, fishing and doing genealogy research for the family tree.
He is survived by two sons, Bruce K. Fasterling and his wife, Linda, of St. Louis, Missouri, Brian K. Fasterling and his wife, Kelly, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter, Sarah A. Fasterling (Mrs. Matthew K. Dowdy) of Plano, Texas; one sister, Joan Fasterling (Mrs. Joseph W. Meyers) of Mandeville, Louisiana; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
