Charles Pierce Fredrick

Charles was born on November 20th, 1936, in Jacksonville, Texas to Charles Nelson Fredrick and Josephine Elizabeth Rutland Fredrick. He spent most of his life in Lufkin, Texas. He was a multisport athlete, playing football, basketball, baseball and running track. He earned a full-ride scholarship in football to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas where he attended from 1955 to 1959 graduating with a business degree.

He met the love of his life, Joy Anderson when he asked her to dance at the 9th grade prom. They were married on August 15th, 1959. They had two sons, Jim and Lee, and made a home for themselves in Lufkin, Texas. They were deeply involved in their community and spent over 40 years teaching Sunday school at First United Methodist Church and made some of their dearest and lifelong friends through this ministry.

Charles spent nearly 35 years working as a life insurance agent and agency manager with American General Insurance. When he retired in his 50s, he spent the rest of his career working in the self-storage business.

In 2005, Charles and Joy moved to Colorado to be close to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spent much of his time with them, especially his great-grandchildren who loved to ride in his golf cart and enjoy the beautiful landscape around Garden of the Gods.

Charles was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting with his bird dogs for many years and loved watching all his loved ones grow their families. He used his words sparingly but was an endless font of advice, jokes and nicknames for his family.

Charles is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joy, and his mother and father Josephine Rutland Fredrick and Charles Nelson Fredrick. He is survived by his sons Jim Fredrick (Heidi Pace); Lee Fredrick (Jill Webber-Fredrick); brother-in-law Jan Anderson (Karen Ruhl); and daughter-in-law Meg Fredrick (John Wilkinson). His beloved grandchildren Alli Fredrick Klein (Ryan Klein), Sarah Joy Fredrick (David Stieber), James Fredrick (Natasha-Pizzey-Siegert), Charlie Fredrick (Kelsey Ness Fredrick), and Julian Webber-Romanos; and his (almost) ten great-grandchildren, Josie, Colin, Eleanor, and Patrick Klein; Joy and Clara Stieber; Dalia and Camilo Pizzey-Fredrick; and Lucy and baby Fredrick (due in October).
