SMSgt (ret) Charles “Chuck” Vaughn Gordon, 76, passed away in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on April 16, 2024. Born to Thomas, Sr., and Pauline (Moss) Gordon in San Diego, California, on December 6, 1947, Chuck was the youngest of four boys. Inspired by his Marine Corps Veteran father, Chuck joined the Air Force in 1967, where he voluntarily deployed to the Vietnam War for a total of two and a half years. While stationed at Holloman Air Force Base (Alamogordo), New Mexico, he met and married Ann Gordon in 1977. Ann had three young sons, James, Steven, and Richard. Chuck embraced his new “Dad” role, and all three boys are grateful he came into their lives. Serving honorably as an Aircraft Armament Systems Specialist and a Logistics Management Specialist for 26 years, Chuck retired from the Air Force in 1993. Chuck continued to work in the logistics profession until he retired in 2022.
A proud “Poppo” of five, Chuck loved playing video games with his grandchildren and taking them to the movies. An exceptionally talented, meticulous general contractor, he not only enjoyed making personalized furniture for his children and grandchildren but also left behind tangible reminders of his love. Chuck also enjoyed family game nights, playing golf and dominoes, fishing, shopping for home improvement projects, listening to country and rock music, and reading sci-fi and historical fiction. He had a unique taste for food, preferring his steaks and bacon "burnt" and shunning most veggies, a quirk that endeared him to his loved ones.
Predeceased by his parents, brothers Bruce and Tommy, Jr., wife Ann, and many beloved pets, including Greta, Penny, and Joyce, Chuck is survived by his brother Mike (Carole) of Muscatine, Iowa; his sons James Sullivan, Steve (Jessica) Sullivan, and Richard Sullivan; daughter Elizabeth Charlton; and grandchildren Shayne, Kade, Kaidence, Skyler, and Zoe, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Per Chuck’s wishes, a private family celebration of life will be held in the future. Chuck received exceptional care and support from various organizations and individuals, whose dedication and compassion were invaluable. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to:
* NP Robyn Grantz and her team at the Ivy Clinic, Evans Army Community Hospital (EACH).
