Chris grew up in and enjoyed the close knit community of Palisade, Co. and excelled there. Much like his parents he was involved in serving his community and even volunteered at the local hospital as a teen. He also earned the prestigious title of head boy at Palisade high school. Growing up near the Grand Mesa he got to enjoy fresh mountain air and fishing as a child and continued that appreciation all through his life. After Chris graduated from High School in 1974, he went on to study at UNC in Greeley, Co.
Since Chris was smart and ambitious at a young age he became a bank manager at only 22 years old. Chris also enjoyed his job as a traffic controller while working on the Glenwood Springs Tunnel job. He worked for the Department of energy as a radioactive monitor/inspector using a Geiger counter to ensure trucks and personnel were free of radioactive materials. His job with the DOE started in Rifle and took him to Cortez, Albuquerque and Tulsa OK. He didn’t want to continue with them once it required living in tornado alley. He worked for Southwest Airlines in Nevada transporting people in wheel chairs and considering his easy going nature he enjoyed getting to talk with all different types of people at the airport. Retiring finally after working a number of years at a Colorado Safeway in the bakery.
Chris was a very intelligent person and had a vast knowledge of many things, but loved U.S and world history, he could often be found watching the history channel. He was able to tour Europe twice and he enjoyed sharing those stories of his travels as well as bringing out the souvenirs he had collected there.
He was an avid sports fan and supported all of the Colorado teams, but he also greatly enjoyed watching Tennis.
In a family where food is paramount he had earned the title of best meatball chef, his were most similar to his mother’s. He loved chocolate, Mac and cheese, buttered toast and a cold Coca Cola to name just a few of his favorites.
While living in Rifle, Co. Chris had a loving companion in his dog Kaiser and took him everywhere. In general Chris loved all animals and they loved him back. He also had other notable companions like his traveling cactus, Stanley. At 18 on a family vacation to Florida he obtained a small palm tree and he made sure to secure it its own seat back to Colorado, possibly to the dismay of the siblings he was traveling with.
Chris was preceded in death by his father Jay (J.R.) and mother Rosalie Crawford. He is survived by his siblings Steve (Marti) Crawford of Nogales, Arizona; Greg (Rhonda) Crawford of Las Vegas, Nevada; Lisa Crawford (Dennis Kravig) of Karval, Colorado; Tim (Leslie) Crawford of Pueblo, Colorado; and Luann (Scott) Ehlers of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He had a great number of nieces and nephews and even some great nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He always kept up with whatever they were doing and they could count on him to be one of their biggest supporters. He is also survived by his Aunt Theresa and Uncle Jerry and many cousins.
Most importantly Chris was a very kindhearted person to everyone.
