November 14, 1927 - August 22, 2018
Paul Brooks beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away early in the morning Tuesday, August 22, 2018 at The Healthcare Resort in Colorado Springs. He was born in Louisburg, KS on a farm, the sixth of six children born to the late Clarence and Maude Brooks.
He served in the US Navy during WWII and was a graduate of Emporia State Teachers College in 1951. He worked a short time for ConocoPhillips Petroleum Co in Bartlesville, OK and then worked his remaining career for Colorado Interstate Gas/Coastal Corporation for 33 years as a draftsman/pipeline engineer in Colorado Springs.
He met the love of his life, Welda Traxson, while in college and was married to her for 64 years til her death in 2014.
As I was told he rose from poverty to success. He was raised on a farm in Kansas in poverty and when he came to Colorado he built his home that he has lived in for 61 years where he was also President of the Neighborhood Association for several years in which he helped maintain the beautiful place he lived.
He enjoyed traveling with his brothers and sister and in 1969 he built his own camper. Every year there was a different destination and then there were many shorter outings to include fishing trips. He also Square, Round and Ballroom danced well into his later years of life, keeping him young. He was also a dedicated member and active volunteer with the church which gave him fellowship with many people. Family and friends were extremely important in his life. He had a smile and a joke for any and everyone he met.
He leaves behind loving children Jaleen Brooks (TC Bounds) of Peyton, CO and Shawn (Lynda) Brooks of Colorado Springs; a grandchild Craig Trujillo; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and many many friends.
Visitation will take place Sunday, September 9, 2018, from 2:00 - 5:00 pm, at Swan-Law Directors, 501 North Cascade, Colorado Springs. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Monday, September 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at Trinity Methodist Church, 701 N. 20th St., Colorado Springs with a reception to follow at the church.
