Connealia May (Connie) Johnson was born May 29, 1941 in Springfield, Missouri to the union of Robert Levi Huddleston and Fannie Mae (Bolden) Huddleston. She was baptized at the age of 10 at Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Fond early memories included playing the flute in concert and marching bands. She attended Pipkin Jr. High, Lincoln High School, then transferred to Central High School (after schools were integrated), where she graduated May 20,1959. She loved to play tennis, ping pong, crochet, volleyball, shuffle board and softball. She was proud of her close family and her relationship with her siblings. She married Leroy Johnson and they had five children. She enjoyed the military assigned time they spent in France and the Netherlands. The family moved to Colorado Springs, Co in 1970 and began attending St. John’s Baptist Church in 1972. She enjoyed being at church and singing in the choir. She was involved in Mission Circle #5 and was an honorary member of the Jolly Jill’s. She loved bowling, in which she obtained many trophies. Other joyful moments included playing Scrabble, watching sports (football, tennis and the Lakers basketball team). Career accomplishments included supervisor positions with Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force base and Litton Data Systems, where she retired. She was a wonderful mother whom gave ample love and discipline. She encouraged her children to attend church and Sunday school, play a musical instrument, serve in the church, do well in school and participate in sports. She loved her Lord and Savior and spoke of Him often. Her journey was amazing and her testimony touched many people. In spite of her physical ailments, she always thought of others. In her final days, the Lord gave her strength to sing “Happy Birthday” to a granddaughter. Hours before passing, she received phone calls and visitors, and expressed her love and gratitude to each one. As she requested, she was blessed to be in her home with family around her. She is survived by her two brothers, Robert L. Huddleston and Ronald Huddleston; her ex-husband Leroy Johnson; five children: Benny D. Johnson, Ruth Annette Carter, Beverly L. Johnson, Charles L. Johnson and Charlotte L. Branch (Donell); 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
