He died bravely, having fought several illnesses for many years. Curt was born October 19th, 1954, in Colorado Springs to Barbara and Charles Esch. He graduated from Coronado High School in 1972. As goalie of Coronado’s first hockey team, Curt set numerous records and was nominated for most valuable player during his sophomore year. He went on to play for recreational and league teams in Denver and Colorado Springs.
After graduating high school, Curt attended the Denver Institute of Technology and his talents as a draftsman earned him a very successful career with Colorado Interstate Gas. Some of his liveliest stories reflected his assignments in Europe, Saudi Arabia, California and Texas. He retired in Denver from CIG and later moved to Cascade. Curt loved Colorado and there wasn’t one mile of the Colorado Rockies he didn’t know, love or appreciate.
He is survived by his older brother Michael Esch, sister-in-law Jean Esch; younger sister Jean Armstrong, brother-in-law Tom Armstrong; youngest sister Dawn Bunker and brother-in-law John Bunker; sister Shelley Laur and brother-in-law Mike Laur. He was affectionately loved by many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by Mother Barbara Lindgren, father-in-law Stan Lindgren, Father Charles Esch, sister Cathy Esch, and wife Julia Nevin Esch.
A private gathering will be held for Curt and his family. We will miss his colorful stories, but his courage and big heart will continue to beat within us.
