

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Traci, and his daughters, Kristi (Andrew) Tullis, and Rene Meyers.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Autumn Malcolm, Alissa (Jacob) Searles, Jillian Meyers, Jacen Meyers, and Tanner Malcolm, as well as his great grandchildren, Scarlet, Raven and Ronan Searles. He also is survived by his brother, Joey (Deborah) Chesney and his sister, Jennet Chesney as well as his lifelong friend, Max Martin, his son in law Robert Dorobiala, his niece, Theresa (Greg) Joehlin, and great nephew, Tyler Joehlin.
Dan is also survived by many friends and family, and friends who became family, including Thom and Lois Shell, and Stacey Shell.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Michelle, his mother, Lillian Chesney, his father and stepmother, Kermit and Marilyn Chesney, his brother Jerry Chesney, his brother Donald Coveyou, and a lifelong friend he loved like a son, Rocky Shell.
He grew up in Michigan, hunting and fishing and loved traveling all over the world. He graduated from Mason High School in 1963, and went on to get a Master's degree in education from his alma mater, Michigan State University. He worked for Kennametal for 36 years, retiring in 2010. He coached his championship softball team, The Killer Bees for many years and was active in his love of every sport, always cheering on his Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets.
He was a friend, coach and mentor to everyone who had the privilege of meeting him.
A celebration of his life and amazing legacy will be Monday, June 15, 2026 from 1pm to 5pm, with lunch and beverages served at The Patty Jewett Golf Course, 900 E. Espanola St, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907.
