

Dan Jay Gillis, 88, passed away on August 27, 2024. Dan was born February 16, 1936, in Ballinger, TX. He was a devoted husband to Melanie Gillis, wife of 67 years. A loving father to Michele Pribble and Dan Gillis, Jr.
Dan was hard-working and dedicated. After serving in the Army, Dan went to work for United Airlines where he started as a ticket agent and worked his way up to flying airplanes as a pilot. During his 38 years at United, Dan went to college in the evenings to earn his Bachelor of Science in Business.
Dan always made time for his family and passions. He had adventures around the globe with his wife, kids, grandkids and friends. Dan and Melanie enjoyed exploring the US with their camper, 5th wheel, and motor coach. He loved his Bronco's, fishing, riding his bike (20 miles a day), playing dominoes, traveling and most importantly his family.
Dan is survived by his wife, Melanie, children Michele Pribble (Larry) and Dan Gillis Jr (Michelle), grandchildren, Kristin Golliher (Cody), Erica Lawlor (Phil), Ryan Gillis (Becca), Jenny Pearson (Scott) and Wesley Gillis (Amnon). Seven great-grandchildren, Penn, Murray and Edie Lawlor, Hannah and Ella Golliher, Lena and Layden Pearson, as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held on September 26th at 10:00 at Swan-Law Funeral Home 501 North Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, Co 80903. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (Home | Alzheimer's Association), a cause close to our hearts.
Dan's loving spirit, radiant smile and compassionate heart captivated everyone who knew him. Dan was a son, a brother, a husband, a dad, a grandad, an uncle and a friend. Dan had a heart of gold, always looking out for others, lending a listening ear or his arms for a hug.
