

David grew up in Trinidad, Colorado, excelling in high school sports; football, baseball and basketball. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp at the rank of Sergeant from 1951-1954 during the Korean War. He married his high school sweetheart, Marlene Barnes on July 26, 1953. He joined the Colorado Springs Police Department in 1956 where he spent the next 25 years serving and protecting the citizens of Colorado Springs. He retired from CSPD as a Lieutenant in the Robbery Division. David spent his early retirement working for L&S Distributing. He treasured his family above all else. He spent much of his retirement camping and fishing with his grandsons and showing them how to respect and value firearms. In his later years, he and his dog, Bennigan were inseparable.
He leave to cherish his memory, his three daughters, Kathi Lancaster (Dale) of Elizabeth; Susan Smith (Karl) of Golden and Nancy Haddan of Colorado Springs; six grandchildren, David Finch (Carol) of Falcon, Jason Frank of Englewood, Jeffrey Frank (Adrian) of Durango, Michael Finch (Jennifer) North Carolina, Cody Smith (Jessica) of Denver and Jessica Smith (Brian) of Brighton; four great-grandchildren, Connor, Jackson, Sadie, Bryce.
Visitation at the Swan Law Funeral Home, 501 North Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO, 80903 on Wednesday, February 19th at 5:00 –7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 20th, 2014 @ 10:00 a.m. at The New Life Church, 11025 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80921.
Burial immediately following funeral at the Eastonville Cemetery, Meridian Road and Latigo Blvd., Elbert, CO, 80106.
Reception following burial at The Pinery at Black Forest, 12375 Black Forest Road Colorado Springs, CO, 80908.
