Delores (Dee) was born in Iowa City, Iowa to Ray and Esther Hemsted. She grew up in Iowa City and the family later moved to a farm near Lone Tree, Iowa. She graduated from Lone Tree High school and then went on to Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. There she obtained the RN designation.
She then worked as an RN at Mercy Hospital and at VA Hospital in Iowa. While in nursing school she met and then later married Fred Reynolds. They moved to Colorado Springs, and she continued her work as an RN at Penrose Hospital.
She paused her career when she and Fred adopted the first of three children. She and her family enjoyed participating in tennis, golf, skiing, camping, and traveling. She was able to visit places like Switzerland, Boston, Cambridge, Martha’s Vineyard, San Simeon, Alaska, Hawaii and many other places in the U.S. Adult education included attending PPCC and UCCS for continuing education and life learning. Gardening, growing flowers and watching hummingbirds was a special interest. She enjoyed flower arranging, Christmas decorations, and crafts of all kinds. She also took up ballroom dancing and did well in competitions.
In the years after raising her children, she had a successful career as a Real Estate agent for a prominent Real Estate company. She later returned to her love for nursing at Memorial Hospital before retiring.
Her unwavering kindness and values were the foundation of her years as a professional business woman and nurse. Dee will be remembered for many things, most of all for her devotion to her children, and grandchildren, as well as her deep Catholic faith.
Catholic funeral service and reception will be held at Corpus Christi Church. Wednesday November 16th at 11:00am. 2318 N. Cascade Ave. Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Red Cross, or your favorite charity.
