Delphina was born in Brooklyn New York on Sept 23rd 1936 and was returned to God as one of his angels on April 25th 2013. For those trying to do the math she was 76 years, 7 months and 2 days old.  Even though she was a petite woman at 5 feet and 1/2 inches, (that half inch was extremely important to remember!) she unknowingly left an impression on a lot of lives. 

She came to Colorado to visit her sister and ending up staying after she met and married Bob. They met through their sisters.  In February Bob and Delphina celebrated their 50th anniversary with a small family dinner. 

Looking back at some of the memories,

after getting married and settling into a routine Del (as she was called by family and friends) and Bob enjoyed fishing together. In fact the city girl from Brooklyn liked fishing so much she would have everything packed and ready to go and would be waiting for Bob to get home so they could leave as quickly as possible. And then along came the kids. 

Her children always knew after school they could count on her to be home, and to listen to what happened at school. Then as a grandmother she looked forward to listening to her two grandchildren, Ryan and Morgan, and what happened during their day at school. Her grandchildren meant everything to her. Del passed down to her daughter what it means to be a good mom. To have the ability to listen and give guidance to her children to help make good choices.

Del loved to play cards with family and friends., in fact she is probably enjoying a hand of cards with some of them right now.  Her granddaughter Morgan's favorite memory is playing cards in the evening and Grandma teaching her to play solitaire the "old fashioned way" with real cards and not a computer.  Del started drawing with chalk and dabbled with oils later in life and made many wonderful pictures. She gave away most of her artwork to friends and family. Her grandson Ryan always looked to her for advise when he needed to be creative for a school project. Recently she helped him chose colors needed to use to paint a project on Africa. Del watched the news and kept current on news events. She used to read the paper from beginning to end, a habit she picked up while living in New York and riding the subway to work. This is a habit she never could break. In fact in the morning after son-in-law Randy would get back from walking Morgan to school, Del would ask how was your walk? and do you have my paper?   
 
As a child she loved horses, but since she had a fear of heights she never would ride on a horse. Then on a girl scout trip her daughter and some of the other girl scouts convinced her to ride a horse. That showed her daughter that sometimes one must overcome fears.

Del was a kind and gentle person with a forgiving heart, she had at the ability to forgive those who were unpleasant to her.  If she came across someone that was not the nicest or easiest to associate with, she would still try and find something positive to say about that person. She always said that growing up in Saint Micheal's is where she learned to forgive. 

Del talked about living in Brooklyn and growing up with her brother Bob and sister June, as a Catholic. Lent was a tough time for them because on Fridays it is naughty to eat meat, but fish is ok. She told us stories of not eating all day and then going to a diner and order hamburgers just after midnight Saturday morning.. This way they were still observing lent...

She was extremely loyal to friends, loved her family deeply, her husband Bob, daughters Cindy and Peggy and especially her grandchildren, Ryan and Morgan, Del thought of her sons-in law Keith and Randy as sons. She loved her brother Bob and sister-in-law Ute, whom she wished she could have spent more time with. She enjoyed her conversations with sister-in-law Mary and brother-in-law Jake, who would bring her flowers when they visited. Del talked about the wonderful things her nieces, nephews and great nephews and great nieces where doing. She would try and take every opportunity she could to visit with them. She would even enjoy the occasional hot dog with mac and cheese. 

Del was a private person, she never repeated what she was told in confidence which made her a good confidant. But if someone needed an alibi Del was not the person to ask, she could not tell a lie, not even a small little tall tale..  She never cried in front of others, that was always something she would wait to do until she was alone. 

 A friend recently told her daughter not to cry so Del can rest in peace. May we all try and take that advice to heart….

We know that Delphina was a wonderful person because we see her spirit in her children and grandchildren. May she truly rest in the peace and joy she sowed in the lives she touched.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Our Mom was a loving and forgiving person. Who cared deeply for her family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life for the last 18 months. She looked forward to hearing about their day at school and all their friends. We will miss her dearly. I love you Mom.

My Mom was 5 feet and 1/2 inch tall and you had better not forgotten that 1/2 inch.. it was important to remember that 1/2 inch... : )  Cindy
