Derek Bryan Kelley died September 15, 2012, at the age of 34. He left us too soon while doing what he loved. We are comforted to know he is with the Lord safely in Heaven. He was born August 24, 1978,
in Wichita, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Tara, sons Zachery and Mason, parents, Jan and Leonard Kelley, his sister, Kristen Szyslowski (Eric) of Mountain View, CA, and his in-laws, Pam and Bob Chenault.
He attended North High School where he participated in baseball and basketball. He went to Newman University and played baseball while working on his degree. He married the love of his life—his high school sweetheart and best friend. He worked at High Touch several years before they moved to Colorado Springs where they shared a life they both embraced of hiking, camping, and mountain climbing. He worked at Focus on the Family for two years and was currently employed at Visionbox as a senior computer programmer. Everyone who knew him agreed his best quality was being the father to his boys willing to give to them his love, time, and discipline. He had loved his dog, Maggie, who had died only a few weeks before. They attended Mountain Springs Church in which they were just beginning as middle school leaders in the IWANA program. He was an encourager to many and had a great sense of humor; and he will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A memorial service is planned for 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Mountain Springs Church, 7345 Adventure Way, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Zachery and Mason’s college fund.
