Dixie was born to George and Maxine McMullin on May 17, 1939. Her dad was the electrician for Yellowstone Park, and she grew up finding bears on her back porch and playing pranks on the tourists. After her dad passed away when she was 16, she moved to San Jose, California, where she finished high school.
She was married to James A. Weber on September 12, 1958, in San Jose, California. She then moved to Bozeman, Montana, where she studied nursing at Montana State School of Nursing and Deaconess Hospital. She worked briefly as an RN until they started their family with the birth of sons, Steven and Kenneth. In 1968, they moved their family to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they welcomed daughter, Sandra, in 1971, and they resided there for the rest of their lives.
Dixie was a stay-at-home mom and was devoted to her family and later her grandkids. The grandkids often looked forward to after-school trips with their grandparents to go roller skating or hikes in the park, or just to the house to play ping pong or air hockey in the basement. Birthdays and holidays were always a family gathering in their home. She also loved animals, and the family had a houseful of pets throughout the years.
Jim and Dixie loved the outdoors, and ski trips and camping were common as well as picnics at the parks around Colorado Springs. They loved to travel and were often going somewhere new, usually in the company of Dixie’s brother and his wife, including an Alaskan cruise and an African safari.
Although Dixie gave up nursing to take care of her family, she was at heart a caregiver. When her mother needed care with Alzheimer’s, she took her in and cared for her. When that became too hard, she still spent long hours every day at the nursing home making sure she was cared for. Even as adults, her kids could expect her to show up with homemade dinners or to help with the kids or pets. She would have done anything for her family.
Unfortunately, Dixie slowly developed Alzheimer’s as well, but even then retained her sweet spirit and still had a smile for everyone.
Dixie was preceded in death by her husband of almost 63 years and her parents. She leaves behind her brother, George McMullin; children, Steven Weber, Kenneth Weber with wife Monique Weber, and Sandra Sherwood with husband Kurt Sherwood; and her grandchildren, Chris Sherwood, Justin Sherwood with wife Alyssa Sherwood, Nathan Sherwood, Austin Weber, and Logan Weber.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Abode Hospice and Garden Ranch Assisted Living for their care of Dixie in her final days.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MtViewMortuary.com for the Weber family.
