Don was born to Louise Kidd Alley and Kenneth G. Alley on April 21st, 1945, in Cheyenne, WY. They later moved to Wheat Ridge, CO where the Alley family grew with four beautiful daughters.
Don graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in 1963, and Adams State College in 1967. He was inducted into the Adams State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.
Don was always active in sports and excelled in many of them. In 1967 he was drafted by the Baltimore Colts, and played in the NFL for several years for the Colts, Steelers, and Chargers. Injury led to his retirement from football but drove him to become a PGA golf professional.
Don became the Head Golf Pro at Sunset Golf Course in Longmont, CO. Then on to Valley Hi and Glenn Eagle in Colorado Springs, CO. As President of the Colorado Chapter of the PGA, he met and played with fellow professionals and amateurs throughout the state and country.
Don enjoyed teaching golf, especially to young people. He wanted to instill in them sportsmanship, the importance of the rules, and the love for the game.
After retiring from professional golf, Don was drawn to jet skiing. The family spent endless days on the water. For 10 years, Don led his family on trips to Lake Powell and anywhere else there was a decent body of water. Nights were spent staying up late, looking at the stars, playing Shanghai and enjoying being a family.
Don was a kind and generous man, who loved his wife, family, and friends. His levelheaded advice to his sons is now understood and appreciated.
He loved a competitive game of golf or gin with his friends, and was always quick with a joke or a story.
Don will be missed by many individuals whose lives he touched.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Kenneth Alley. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judith, sons: Raymond Brown (Melissa), Eric Young (Jennifer), and grandson Aidan Brown. He is also survived by his four sisters: Barbara Alverson (David), Janet Slaughter (Doug), Susan Bilderback (Robert), and Judy Alley, all of Denver, CO. Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
