Donald Montague, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Colorado Springs on April 4, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on November 6, 1935, in Hardwick, Vermont, Don lived a full and vibrant life marked by love, laughter, and deep devotion to his family and community.
Don proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years before embarking on a successful career as an electrical engineer working for various companies in Massachusetts, Florida and finally retiring at Honeywell in Colorado Springs. Known for his sharp mind and tireless work ethic, he left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike. After retirement, Don dedicated his time to giving back, volunteering at both the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center and Martinez Elementary School.
A man of many passions, Don found joy in traveling, hunting, fishing, and cheering on UConn basketball. He had a quick wit and a warm heart, always ready with a joke to lift the spirits of those around him. Above all, Don was a devoted family man who encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue their dreams and be the best versions of themselves.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Montague, and their three children: Scott Montague (Amy Montague), Susan Lindsey, and Kyle Montague (Jeni Montague). Don was a proud grandfather to Hailey (Montague) Gagner, Carter Montague, Bailey Lindsey, Morgan Lindsey, Kayelynn Montague, and Kelsey Montague, and a cherished great-grandfather to Brielle, with baby Brooks soon to join the family.
He is also survived by his brothers, Kenneth and Richard Montague and sister-in-law Alyce DeAngelo. He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Montague and his mother Verlie (Gilman) Montague and by his brothers Larry and Burton Montague, as well as his infant son, Mark, who was stillborn in 1964.
Don’s legacy of love, humor, and perseverance will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His family takes comfort in the memories he created and the wisdom he shared, knowing his spirit will never be forgotten.
A small gathering to celebrate Don’s life will be held at Swan-Law Funeral Directors on April 24th from 4:30-6:30. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a Parkinson’s Foundation or Veteran Fund in his honor.
