Douglas Floyd Brown, lovingly known as "Poppy", passed peacefully from this life at 12:12 am on June 3, 2026, surrounded by his family. Doug was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, believer and friend. He was born on January 18, 1949, to Vinton and Volna Brown in McCook, Nebraska. When Doug was quite young, the Browns moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. This is where Doug would create a life and legacy to last for generations.
A graduate of Mitchell High school, Doug married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Karen Ann Brown (Watkins) on January 25, 1969. Together they shared a devoted marriage and built a family founded on faith, love, and unwavering commitment.
He was a proud father to his daughters, Deanna Horn (Bill), Brenda Paisley (Scott), and Malinda Sanger (Sean). He was also a loving grandfather to Billy Horn (Melissa), Joseph Martens (Taylor), Megan Schuett (Chance), Steven Martens (Casey), Cassidy Jones (Ben), Amanda Dalton (Cody), Elaina LaCombe (Nate), Angela Cook (Camden), and Ava Smith. His family was further blessed by many great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy and pride.
A hardworking man, Doug faithfully provided for his family as a skilled carpenter. He made his career at Bassett Construction where he worked his way up from laborer to superintendent to project manager. Doug loved spending time with his father fishing and hunting but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He retired quite young where he spent his time supporting and loving his wife's (Nanny's) daycare kids, attending his granddaughters' softball games, fixing and flipping houses, picking grandkids up from school and other activities, and being the best Poppy anyone could ask for.
But for everything Doug and Karen created in their 57 years together, their greatest accomplishment was the spiritual foundation they established for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doug was a man of deep, abiding faith and he dedicated his life to Christ and to the care of his family. His unfaltering example of strength, courage, honesty, integrity, and holiness was evident in the way he lived each day and in the values he instilled in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Doug was a devoted member of Awakening Church where his faithful presence will be profoundly missed. His life was a testimony to the power of faith lived out in daily actions, and his influence will continue for generations to come. Those who knew him take comfort in knowing that his legacy is one that points others toward Christ and has impacted countless lives for eternity.
The love his family has for him cannot be expressed in words, nor can their respect and admiration for him be measured. Though he will be deeply and profoundly missed, they rejoice in the assurance of his eternal home and in the lasting example he leaves behind.
