Douglas William Folsom, age 77, of Colorado Springs, passed away unexpectedly on March 26, 2026. His passing comes as a profound shock to his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. Doug lived a vibrant and full life and was taken far too soon.
Doug was born in Latham, New York in 1948 to Joseph Folsom and Beatrice Dupree. Doug was the third born of five children and was a curious child, often causing commotion and disruption at every turn. He graduated from Shaker High School in 1966 and was drafted into the United States Army in 1968. A proud veteran, Doug served for two years, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado during the Vietnam era from 1968-1969.
In 1971, Doug married the love of his life, Patricia Romero, and together they built a life centered on love, adventure and family. They shared a deep appreciation for the Colorado mountains, where camping, fishing, and 4- wheeling became cherished summer traditions. Doug found peace on the open road, especially while riding his Yamaha Virago motorcycle, often reminiscing about the cross-country trip at age 19 on his Indian motorcycle.
With Patricia by his side, Doug built a successful career as an insurance agent with Farmers Insurance, where he was known for his dedication and passion. He retired in 2015 after more than 30 years of service.
Doug was a devoted and loving father to his daughter, Shawna, and took immense pride in his role as a parent. Above all, his greatest joy was being a grandfather. He treasured every moment spent with his three grandchildren, Carter, Noah and Graycee, and embraced his role as “Papa” with love, enthusiasm and unwavering presence. The pride he felt for them was evident in his ever-present smile, a memory that will be cherished forever.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Beatrice; his brother Dennis; and his sister Diane. He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia; his daughter, Shawna; his grandchildren, Carter, Noah and Graycee; his siblings, Donna and Joe; and an extended family of nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
A graveside ceremony will be held at Pikes Peak National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 12th, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at VFW Post 3917 at 11:00 am.
