Doug was an avid outdoorsman and loved traveling and spending time on his property in Hartsel, Colorado. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding ATVs and shared these passions with all of his children. He raced cars as a young man, sporting the number 99. He was a huge fan of all things NASCAR. It was one of his greatest pleasures, watching and cheering for his favorite drivers. He volunteered yearly at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, often side-by-side with his son, Steve.
Doug served four years in the Air Force and worked for a short time at Long Island Lighting Company. After moving to Colorado in 1976, Doug worked as a driver and heavy equipment operator for the El Paso County Department of Transportation. One of Doug’s passions was driving, so he made it his career for 25 years.
Doug met Cheryl Anne Bates of College Park, Maryland in February 1982 and they were married in Colorado Springs, CO on March 21, 1987. They were best friends and devoted partners. They loved to travel and take cruises, spend time with family and laugh.
Doug is survived by his loving wife Cheryl, and four children: Chrissy Bricker (William) of Mt. Morris, IL, Shelly McCann of Raleigh, NC, Lisa Erickson (Mike) of Yorktown, VA, and Steve McCann (Jenell) of Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren, Ezekiel, Daymen, Brooklynn, Aiden, Noah, Steven (Junior), Ava, Audrey, and Lucia; sisters-in-law Vera McCann, and Dawn Reynolds, and brothers-in-law Rick Bates and Gene Bates (Lisa).
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, brother George McCann and sister Donna Vollmer.
