

Duane Egbert was married to his high school sweetheart, Carole, for sixty-one years. Duane was a highly decorated U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Upon retirement, with 23 years of exemplary service, Duane and Carole resided in Colorado Springs for the last forty-four years. Duane’s service included his deployment to Vietnam in 1968, where he was awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry in Action, and the Bronze Star with “V” Device for Valor.
In Duane’s early NCO career, he was a Drill Sargent, training new army recruits at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Duane served three tours of duty in Germany, then was assigned as a Career Counselor at MILPERSON in Alexandria, Virginia, where he was later awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his leadership in the development of programs for the Enlisted Personnel Management Directorate. Duane’s last unaccompanied tour of duty was in Korea along the DMZ before returning to Fort Carson Colorado.
After retirement, Duane attended Regis College, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, he opened his own business, Egbert’s Tax Service, operating for almost twenty years. Duane is survived by his wife, son, three grandsons, two granddaughters and four great grandchildren. Duane will receive full military honors at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery on March 21st.
