Edith Mitchell Buss, 83, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Born May 23, 1933 in Newport News, VA to William and Elsie Mitchell. Mrs. Buss graduated from Hampton High School as valedictorian in 1951 and then attended Cleveland Bible College and Marian College where she received her BA in Greek. She met Siegfried at Cleveland Bible College and they were married in 1955, in Hampton, Virginia. They then went together to Wheaton College Graduate School where Edith earned her Masters in Christian Education. In 1961, Edith and Siegfried began their service as career missionaries with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) in Japan. Edith served as a secretary at the Japan Team Office, she taught English conversation at Tokyo Christian College, and she taught first grade at Christian Academy in Japan all the while being a loving wife and mother to three daughters. Edith's personality blended perfectly with the Japanese culture as she served with humility and love. In 1997, she retired from her life of ministry in Japan and moved to Bethel, Ohio for one year to care for her ailing mother before settling in Colorado Springs, CO. In Colorado she enjoyed going to the YMCA with Siegfried and to Bible studies at Village Seven Presbyterian Church with her daughter. Mrs. Buss is predeceased by her parents and by her siblings William T. Mitchell Jr, Cecil Ray Mitchell and Betty Lou Swiggett. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr Siegfried Buss, her brothers Charles Marvin Mitchell of Jupiter, FL, and Dr. Edward Lee Mitchell and his wife, Ruth Alma of Alliance, OH, sister Doris Marie Miller and husband, Philip, of Bethel, OH and brother-in-law Sidney Swiggett of Williamsbury, VA, and her daughters, Kathy Johnston and husband Matt, Heidi Peterson and husband Jim, and Frieda Nossaman and husband John. She has 6 grandchildren: Luke Johnston, Miles Peterson, Kendra Peterson, Eli Peterson, Brent Nossaman and Adrie Nossaman.
The burial will take place at Memorial Garden on October 17, 2016.
