Edward was born June 14, 1928, in Jefferson County, Kentucky as the oldest of seven children to Harvie Burnett Bufford of Louisville, Kentucky, and his wife Essie Vivian Kellems-Bufford of Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He had one brother, Harvey Alan Bufford, along with five sisters; Ruth Christina Christian of Somerset, Kentucky; Nellie Jeanette Maddox of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; Dorothy Lois Bufford; June Marie Niverson of Gas City, Indiana; and Linda Sue Brooks of Appalachia, West Virginia.
Edward married Dorothy Lee Phipps in July 10,1948, and moved to Baltimore, Maryland working as a laborer. Together, they had three children; Phyllis Ann Kauffman of Monument, Colorado; Brenda Gayle McDowell of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Edward Wayne Bufford of Pleasanton, California. Edward & Dorothy later moved to California where their marriage was dissolved in 1967.
Edward loved bowling and was an avid reader of books. He enjoyed mysteries. He also enjoyed working on cars leading him to own and operate several gas stations. At one time he had a contract with the California Highway Patrol to service their cars. He became friends with many of these officers. In addition, he also sold Mac Tools and was a licensed insurance and real estate agent in California.
Edward was also dedicated to the Masons; Eastern Star, being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in 1985. It was there that he met the widow, Marjorie Anderson, to whom he was married for 22 years. After her demise, he moved to Monument, Colorado to be with his daughters. It was there that he became reacquainted with the widow, Janice McMullin, who had once introduced him to Marjorie. She had moved to Colorado just a few blocks away. They later married and remained together until her demise. Edward met his demise several weeks later.
Edward leaves behind his two daughters, one son, six grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. He has requested a cremation without a big ceremony with his ashes to be scattered later by his daughters. He wishes everyone to remember him without tears and to just be happy for him as he has recently devoted himself to Jesus.
