It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward “Ed” Fryar, who departed this life on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, at the age of 93 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A devoted husband, father, Papa, Great-Papa, and friend, Ed leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and service.
Born in Durant, Oklahoma to the late Edward Wilburn and Tressie Eva Fryar. Ed was one of seven children, brothers Bob, Charles, and Kenneth and sisters Ann, Carolyn, and Marilyn.
Ed joined the United States Air Force after High School, where he proudly served his country for 28 years, earning him the honor of Chief Master Sergeant. He also served during the Korean War, where he played baseball for the USAF. His dedication to duty and country was matched only by his unwavering devotion to his family.
On July 21, 1956, Ed married the love of his life, Helen D. Fryar—our sweet Nannie. Their marriage of nearly 70 years was a true testament to enduring love and partnership. Her passing in February of this year left a deep void in his heart. Now, they are reunited once again in the kingdom of heaven side by side.
He is survived by his two daughters, Mary Janssen and Carol Wright; his three grandchildren, Kristen Smith, Nick Janssen, and Katelyn Wright; and his five—soon to be six—great-grandchildren: Troy, Kalynn, Collin, Reese, Jesse, and Baby J.He is also lovingly remembered by his extended family: Tim Wright, Richard Smith, Sarah Janssen, and Robert Carpenter, who will forever cherish his memory and carry his legacy forward.
Ed will be remembered for his warm smile, unwavering love for his family, his love for Western Films and John Wayne, his passion for the game of baseball, and for his dedication and service to our country. Though he is no longer with us in person, his love and lessons will remain in our hearts forever.
Rest in peace, Ed aka Papa. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A rosary will be held Tuesday, May 13th at 9:15 am, funeral at 10:00 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with a committal service to follow at 12:00 pm at Pikes Peak National Cemetery. A reception will follow at 2:00 pm at The Lounge, 3440 W Carefree Cir 80917.
