

Ned was a life long resident of Colorado Springs. He graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 1951 & Regis College in Denver in 1955. He went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Creighton Law School in Omaha, NE in 1959.
His legal career included positions as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Colorado, Deputy District Attorney for the 4th Judicial District, City Attorney for Cripple Creek and Westcliffe, Colorado. He spent a majority of his distinguished legal career practicing law as a partner in the Colorado Springs law firm of ‘Ross and O’Brien.’ Throughout his legal career, he used his keen intellect, razor sharp wit, and incredibly strong moral compass to work within the legal system for the betterment of his community.
In addition to his legal career, he was the founder of Summa Land and Cattle Company, a boutique cattle operation run in close collaboration with the Sonderegger Ranch located in Westcliffe, Colorado. When not being a cowboy, Ned enjoyed playing golf, days of adventure and he loved maintaining a watchful eye over the wildlife in his own backyard and the marine life in Coronado, CA.
Ned was married for 54 years to Marianne T. O’Brien. He was the proud father of Stephen (Cathleen) O’Brien, Jennifer (Robert) Archibald, Matthew O’Brien (who preceded him in death), Paul O’Brien and Timothy (Eileen) O’Brien, and proud grandfather of Anny, Regan, Keelie, Afton and Liam.
A memorial Service will take place in his honor on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Colorado Springs.
