Betty was born in Kitchener, Canada, to Barbara and Ludwig Krimmer. She lived in that area until attending Humber College in Toronto, Canada, earning a degree in travel and tourism. She also attended college at the University of Waterloo. While there, she met Rob Allan through mutual friends. The two shared a mutual love of music and of each other, and in 1985 the two were married.
Being the daughter of a wonderful home cook, Betty learned from the best, and in high school, college and later, she worked at various restaurants, adding professional tips and tricks to her culinary toolbox.
The career of which she was most proud was being mom to daughters Charlotte and Stefanie. She volunteered for countless school events such as reading programs in both Toronto and later Colorado Springs, creating a large network of lifetime friends.
In 2000, Betty and Rob moved to Colorado Springs when Rob’s job transferred there.
There, Betty began volunteering for an organization known as Dress for Success, later known as the Women’s Resource Center, helping women who were trying to reenter the workforce. Betty worked for almost 10 years with the clients there, providing styling options for job interviews and professional jobs.
In addition to her family, Betty loved reading, the outdoors, walking and shopping, exhibiting an uncanny ability to find “the deal.” Since 2021 when she officially became an “Oma” to granddaughter Mabel, followed in 2024 by Lucy, she has been devoted to the two girls, making several trips to Hawaii to spend time with them.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, who passed away just 18 days prior to Betty. She is survived by her husband, Rob, daughters Charlotte Allan and Stefanie Allan, son-in-law Matt Smith, beloved granddaughters Mabel (3) and Lucy (almost 1), two sisters, Chris Koller (the late Joe) and Helen Shook (Kevin), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Betty’s honor to World Central Kitchen or Planned Parenthood.
A memorial will be held this summer in the Waterloo/Kitchener area.
