

Betty Viele, born as Elizabeth Weigand, of Boulder, CO died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 21, 2021 at age 80. Born in 1941 in New York, NY to William and Dorothy Weigand. She received a BS in nursing from Hunter College in NY, and a MS in Nursing from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Betty worked for the Tri-county health department and later for Boulder County health department as a school nursing supervisor for Boulder County. She left nursing to follow her passion and owned AML Mountain Knits, a knitting store in Boulder, CO.
Betty met her husband Larry in 1967 at the Schusbaumer's Ski Club. Avid travelers, they camped all across the US and Canada both by themselves and with their RV Club, The Bearly Home Retirees. After Larry's death in 2010 Betty became a winter Texan and eventually a full time Texas living in the Tropic Star RV Resort in Pharr, TX. In July Betty decided to move to a retirement facility in Colorado Springs to be near family and was there when she passed.
Betty will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and dependability as well as her unique sense of humor. Betty is survived by her son Matt Viele, daughter-in-law Bini Viele, and their children Amelia and Natasha. A memorial service will be held in Boulder, CO in the fall.
