Ervin Lawrence Meacham

Ervin was born on March 9, 1935, to Earle and Mildred (Mietzner) in New Orleans, Louisiana. He joined the Army during the Korean War Era and would continue a life of service, starting in law enforcement and continuing with the fire department.

On February 20, 1955, Ervin married Lu Rita (Henry) in Colorado Springs and they would share nearly 60 years of marriage together. Ervin and Rita went on to have 3 children, daughters Lois (Dave) and Beverly (DJ), and son, Frank (Holly). Ervin and Rita enjoyed traveling together, especially on cruise ships with family and friends. They would return to Colorado Springs, Colorado as their home after living in Georgia, Texas, and Oklahoma.

Ervin would earn the rank of Battalion Chief before retiring from the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) in 1989, after 25 years of service. After retirement from CSFD, Ervin served as the Fire Chief of the Canon City Area Fire Protection District and Training Chief with the Black Hawk Fire Department. In addition, Ervin served on staff for the National Fire Academy and with the Volunteer Firemen’s Insurance Services. Ervin was very heavily involved with his Masonic fraternity for more than 50 years. He enjoyed participating with the Shriners in parades and even had a special car made to look like a Fire Chief’s car. Thursday morning donut meetings with his brothers brought him great joy and allowed for him to share his countless stories.

Ervin was predeceased by Rita (2015) and his brothers, Eugene and Kermit. He is survived by his three children, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Swan-Law Funeral Home in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Ervin will be interred with Rita in St. Francis, Kansas at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ShrinerS Hospital: Burn Unit, an organization Ervin strongly believed in.
