Born on April 20, 1941, in Marion, Texas to Salvador and Dolores Acuna, Stella’s story was one of strength, grit, and deep love. At just 14, she met the love of her life, Ernesto Arispe, at a local dancehall—a moment that would shape a lifetime. The two married soon after, beginning a journey filled with devotion, hard work, and family. In 1970, the Air Force moved the family to the U.S. Air Force Academy. Stella was a proud military wife who embraced the challenges and sacrifices that came with service.
Stella never met a stranger. Her warmth and fierce love created a home that welcomed many—family, friends, and anyone in need. She was generous beyond measure, always finding a way to give, even when she had little. She had a fiery spirit, never afraid to speak her mind or stand her ground, and her passion left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know her.
Her Catholic faith was the anchor of her life. She dove into it with passion and unwavering belief, and it seems only fitting that on the very day the first American Pope was named, she transitioned from this life into the next.
Stella came from humble beginnings and never forgot where she started. She worked tirelessly to ensure that her family was provided for and deeply loved. She battled through every hardship with determination and grace—right up to the peaceful end.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernesto Arispe, parents, and 7 siblings. She is survived by her sister Gloria Aleman, 6 children: Edward Arispe, Ann (Jon) Martin, Teresa (Tim) Reese, Vivian DeBolt, Sonia Westfall (Robert Starr), and Ernie (Brooke) Arispe, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many more extended family members and friends. Each of them carries a piece of her strength, her unwavering love, and her unbreakable spirit. She instilled in us the importance of family, faith, and the joy of gathering around a home-cooked meal—traditions that continue to live on in every kitchen, every recipe, and every shared table. She would never turn down an opportunity to embrace her delight for slot machines and had an unexplainable lucky streak. Stella was bold, unyielding, and unforgettable. We take comfort in the image of her reunion with her love of 62 years—dancing once more, just like they did so many years ago.
