Fidel D. Martinez was born on September 8, 1938, in Chamisal, New Mexico. He was the youngest son of Jose Rubel Martinez and Maria Luguire Eucridez Martinez (Lovato). Fidel "Phil" passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024, with 2 daughters Susie, Dianne, and son Steve, as well as most of his grandchildren and great grandchildren by his side.
Fidel is survived by his daughter and son Susie Felia & Steve Padilla, daughter Dianne Dina Weir, son Phil Martinez, 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 brother, countless relatives and friends. Fidel is preceded in death by his beautiful loving wife Cidelia (Sadie) M. Martinez (Gallegos) of 59 years, their sons Joseph D. Martinez and Danny P. Martinez, his parents and 10 siblings.
Fidel was a ranch hand, big rig driver for the mines, railroad worker for D&RGW railroad, construction foreman for Vrooman Homes, mail courier and much more for Academy School Dist. #20 where he retired.
Fidel absolutely loved his family and was very proud of all of them, he would always brag to everyone he would talk to and meet. Fidel was very proud of and loved the ranch that he and Sadie created together. Hunting, fishing, camping, barbequing, working on classic vehicles, retelling old stories, smoking cigars and having a drink with his sons and grandsons, and motorcycle rides across the U.S. with his wife and friends were among his favorite things to do.
Father Brian Roeseler will be presiding. Rosary and Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Colorado Springs, Colorado on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, at 10:00 am. Fidel "Phil" will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs following mass. Reception to follow internment at Corpus Christi Parish Hall.
