

Franklin Carl Gross passed away while in hospice care in Castle Rock, CO January 10, 2012, after courageously battling pancreatic cancer. Frank was born on November 22, 1952, in Culver City, CA. He grew up in Colorado Springs, CO, graduated from Wasson High School in 1970 and received a BS in Biology and Chemistry at Adams State College. Frank then earned a MS in Physiology and Biomechanics from the University of Denver. On May 31, 1984, he married Gail Hamula of Colorado
Springs.
Frank served in the Air Force from 1980 through 2000, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His various assignments included Chief of Protocol at Peterson AFB, CO; Chief, Business Operations Flight, McConnell AFB, KS; Services Commander
multiple times, including Director of Services, Air Force Academy, CO.
Frank was active in sports, winning highest honors in track and field in discus and shot put. He was a five-time national champion and 11-time All-American during college, named "Outstanding Performer" at the 1978 National Track and Field
Meet and was inducted into the Adams State Sports Hall of Fame.
Frank will best be remembered as a servant leader, teacher, mentor, patriot and friend which stems from his relationship with his Lord.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Gross; daughter Jennifer (Chris) Sakolowski, Australia; sister Paula (Ron) Duncan, Mesa, AZ & Colorado Springs, CO; and step-sister Suzie (Moe) Kiesewetter, Normal, IL.
