Gaynor Earl Atkinson, PhD, of Manitou Springs, Colorado, was called home to join his loving wife, Sonja (Lovald) Atkinson on August 20, 2024 at the age of 94. He was born to Earl Atkinson and Leona (Peterson) Atkinson in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Gaynor had a long and full life. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Canada at the age of 19. He earned his Bachelor of Science in engineering and worked for years on Sandia Base in Albuquerque, NM. He eventually moved to Colorado, where he has resided for over 40 years. He received his Doctorate of Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. He enjoyed practicing as a psychologist in Colorado Springs.
One of his life ambitions was to build his own solar design home, which he was able to accomplish in Crystal Park, Manitou Springs, with the help of his family. This beautiful home in the mountains has a commanding view of the entire valley. He loved hiking and backpacking in the Colorado mountains, especially with his family.
Gaynor was preceded in death by his older sister Earlene (Atkinson) Hale. He is survived by a son, Daniel Atkinson of Colorado Springs, and sons Gayvin Stong, Nathan Stong, and Ian Stong. His daughters are Melanie Davis, Sarah Colby, and Melody Molen. His legacy includes 25 grandchildren, and 43 great grandchildren.
We know dad is now enjoying the love and peace of a reunion with family and friends.
We will have a viewing at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day, 5375 Centennial Blvd, Colorado Springs, Friday, August 30, at 10 am. Memorial Service at 11 am. Graveside dedication at 1:30 at the Crystal Valley Cemetery.
