Gene Kirby Sullivan
Was born in Idabelle Oklahoma on October 22, 1932, the oldest of eight children. He was an adoring and devoted husband to his wife Betty Sullivan for fifty-four years and a loving and caring father to his four children; Debbie Sullivan Montoya, Steve Sullivan and wife Sherry, Lisa Sullivan Vargas and husband Jerome, and Jeffrey Sullivan. His life legacy includes ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. In death he joins his brothers Kerry and Arnold Dale and is survived by brothers Dal and Kelsey and sisters, Sheron, Gwen, and Iris.
Gene’s passion for adventure and desire to live life fully lead him and his wife to Colorado Springs in 1957 after time spent serving in the US Army and attending Jr. College in Little Rock Arkansas.
Gene was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hiking, fishing, hunting and camping and shared his enthusiasm for the Colorado mountains and back country with his family and numerous friends throughout the years. He left all of those in his life with many wonderful memories of time spent on long country drives, afternoon picnics, weekend camping and week-long hunting adventures. If the weekend didn’t include a road trip up old gold camp road, you might find him dancing in a twist contest with his wife Betty, running marathons or just enjoying time with friends and family.
Gene loved life and lived with an unwavering commitment to his family and his strong Christian beliefs guided him through his life. There was never a question or a doubt about who he was or where he stood on any issue. He was as honest as the day is long, brimming with integrity and beaming with love for his family. Even in the toughest of times, Gene’s sense of humor prevailed and he often resorted to corny little jokes to draw out a quick grin from a frowning face.
We were so fortunate to have had such an amazing man as our Dad and Husband.
Our gratitude to him is everlasting and the love we shared will always be in our hearts.
