Letha Joy would always be Her Happiest after she had a chance to talk on the phone with Aunt Geneva! Now They will be able to talk endlessly in Spirit! With ❤️

Geneva was a very dear friend of our family.  She and my Aunt Jeanie would often visit my parents, Gene and Dorothy Hanson, and always bring some roses for my mom.  We loved hearing Geneva's many stories and her laughter.  We'd love to read the stories she'd written about her mom.  We can imagine that she was as wonderful at writing as she was at telling her stories and the stories of her family and friends.
When my husband and I visited her, she'd always make sure we left with a gift and I'll treasure the bell she gave me on our last visit.  She gave a tour of her family and told the names and a bit of a story about each person.  Not many people are so sharp into their 90s.  She was an inspiration!
For her 95th birthday, my sister, Karen Smith, and I decided to give Geneva 95 roses.  What a thrill it was to deliver roses to her after all the roses she'd given away through the years.  Geneva's smiles, laughter and happy spirit will always be remembered.  
My condolences to her family.  May memories of her fill your heart with all of the smiles, stories and laughter she shared so willingly.  
Since she'll be buried near my parents, I can imagine a big party when their souls all get together again in heaven.  Her big heart will continue gathering friends and family around her.

Geneva and I talked each day, many times twice a day. We shared our difficulties and how to cope. Most of all we shared our love and trust of Jesus. We shared Scripture to encourage each other and to remind each other that Jesus was in control. Sometimes, we both had control issues and we needed to be reminded of His love and plans for us. We both loved family history, playing dominoes (we were fierce competitors) and just talking to her was a special part of each day. I miss her, but just knowing she is home and no longer suffering from pain helps. She had a fierce will to live as long as she could and I thought she would make it to 100. Each day, we would say only this day is given so make the best of it. We prayed together and I saw many of our prayers answered this last year. We had a big discussion once, that sometimes we kept asking for something and was ignoring God's answer because it was not the one we wanted. She was my beloved aunt, best friend, spiritual mentor and confidant. You will hear much about her love to laugh, and she did love to laugh. Laughter is the best medicine when  others may fail. We shared to much together, including travels to Tennessee to look up family history, her staying at my house to be with us in California, trips to see her friend, Lucy May, trips to Pismo Beach where we played dominoes and had the neighbors came by to see her laugh because she was winning. Precious memories they all are. Geneva's first journal of her life was titled "Precious Memories" and she had a great many she shared with lots of her friends, nieces and nephews. Honestly, it's hard to believe that she's gone, considering I honestly thought she was too stubborn to die. Turns out she had worked it out with the Lord to decide when she was ready to go because she told everyone it was her time to go. I can only imagine that she is up there in heaven praising Jesus with her siblings and teaching Him how to play dominoes because she was always playing. 

She was loved and adored by so many and I know there's a lot of hearts hurting at losing her. She went to the same church for longer then my dad has been alive and she was always writing letters! 

If there's one thing that I want to take from her it's her passion for living! My mom said that she thought she had more life in her because she was dancing and celebrating just a couple of months ago. She still had so much life in her! 

Honestly, I think she left the way that she wanted to leave. She still had her mind (she was known for knowing everyone's birthday which has to be in the hundreds and remembering the exact date things would happen) and she was still living alone on her own. 

It is hard to believe that this world no longer contains her passionate and loving soul but I also am confident that she's in a better place! I will always love my great grandma!

We played Dominoes today in honor of our favorite person to lose Dominoes to, my Grandma Geneva. When I'm not crying from missing her so much, it hurts. Wishing I believed her when she said she wouldn't live long enough to see us again. I'm smiling and laughing, remembering so many great and funny times with her. Gosh, I love her! I'll forever remember all the times we made and ate rice pudding together. Staying the night and curling up with her on the couch, we pulled into a bed to watch our favorite show, Baretta and probably ate rice pudding. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Going horseback riding and taking the intermediate trail. Which was great until we came to an empty field, and the horses saw the barn and ran back at full speed.
We looked at each other and were sure we would die. We survived and never stopped laughing about it. All the times we talked about how much she and my grandfather loved Angela Lansbury and watching Murder She Wrote. Driving in the car with her and my grandfather while they each tried to tell me which way to go. Laughing so hard I couldn't see the road. It didn't matter. Nobody could agree on which way to go anyway. Hanging out with her and my grandfather and went everywhere they went. All the time, loving being with her and wanting to stay close. Sharing our faith in God and loving Jesus. Of course, my favorite memories will always be sharing my family with her and all the laughter and tears that brought. Henry Winkler said we get in little grooves with the people we love and think it will last forever, but time goes fast, and nothing lasts forever. I was in a groove, and I thought it would last forever. I'm holding my husband and all my babies a little tighter today, and I'll remember those grooves won't always be there.

When you are a part of a large family, someone remembering your birthday with a thoughtful card, a loving message, and a follow-up phone call, makes you feel special and loved.   That was Aunt Geneva’s specialty!   She loved to reminisce about being a young, 20 year old war bride in 1945 and coming to babysit Shirley (7 yrs), Joy (6), Charles (4), and Patricia (18 months) when I was born.    I’m surprised she went on to have 4 of her own after that experience!    I’ll miss her cards, loving and compassionate talks, and laughter.     That competitive spirit in a heated dominoes game was contagious (or genetic)!     She was our last link to our precious mother, who she so dearly loved and was loved by.   She said she didn’t leave mother’s side to go to her own classroom in school until she was 8 years old!    I know you’re close to mom again, Aunt Geneva.     The circle is unbroken.

I am so lucky to have had Geneva in my life from a child to adulthood. When Geneva, Estelle, and my Grandma Lois got together visiting in Bakersfield we Cummings kids were always so excited to be with them. Love, laughter, and dominos with the whole Richardson family was a part of growing up and I’ll always have those happy memories. I’m grateful for the time we spent with her and that my own family got to know her too.  She will be remembered and loved forever.  Her loving great niece, Carol Heaton

As a kid, I loved going out to Granny & Grandpa Pelfrey's when Aunt Geneva &often Aunt Estelle, would be down for a visit. They were both so sweet to me . RIP Aunt Geneva...you are loved by soo many. Prayers of comfort for the rest of her family & friends.❤️

Aunt Geneva has been and always will be cherished and held to the highest regard. She was a once in a life time person to know and it has been a privilege and an honor to have known a person of her magnitude. The impact she has had on our family is unequaled.

Aunt Geneva had a new story every time we’d visit- the amazing life experiences and wisdoms she has shared- how she is deeply missed and her profound depth of knowledge and know-how- it is a tragedy to now be without our family historian!

The QUEEN of dominos…there’s no, if’s, ands or buts…if you visited Aunt Geneva bet your bottom dollar there would be domino games abound! She was especially tickled when she was able to so masterfully calculate what everyone else had in their hands and she wound up blocking everyone from playing- she loved to win! It was a joy and priceless experience playing dominos with her.

Aunt Geneva laughed so hard when she saw the message on this mug! She LOVED to laugh and her laughter and joy touched our hearts- people couldn’t help but smile and laugh with her as she had a way with people- so awe inspiring!! She never knew a stranger

Aunt Geneva always had balloons, flowers, cards and treats coming her way around the time of her birthday! Each birthday was bigger than the last because it was a big deal having her apart of our daily lives. She was cherished and celebrated every day!

Aunt Geneva was so loved by all of her nieces and nephews. She was an amazing and loving aunt to us all. We will treasure all the memories and wonderful times that we have shared with her playing in our domino tournaments and family reunions. We are rich in the love and the extraordinary care she gave to us all. In the end, we are assured that she loves us as much as we love and cherish her.  We can still hear her laughter when she would win at dominos.  She was our beloved aunt and our family historian who shared so much of our family history and stories not to mention her wonderful life wisdom to carry with us until we meet again. You always remembered to send us a birthday card and a call with happy birthday wishes. We still are amazed at your incredible memory that included remembering every birthday and anniversary of hundreds of nieces and nephews. We used to tease you that you were a supercomputer. Thank you, Aunt Geneva, for all the wonderful laughter and joy you brought to us all. Rest in peace our Sweet Aunt Geneva.
