It is so wonderful reading all these messages from former friends.  George spoke so highly of you all and we are honored to attend his memorial service in Colorado Springs on March 19, 2021

Please contact the Association of Graduates for condolence information. A funeral service will be held on 19 Mar 2021 at 1100 hours at the USAFA Cemetery. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Memorial Pavilion.  

George and I were roommates our first year at the Academy. I remember how dedicated and determined he was. He was highly motivated and never lost sight of his dream of becoming a pilot. But after a long week of stress and hopeless upperclassmen, he could really enjoy the simple pleasure of a whole pint of butter brikkle ice cream in the peace and quiet of our cadet room. After graduation, George and I parted ways. I left for the Army Ranger school and George for pilot training. I never saw George again, but he was one of the most unforgetable people I have ever known. It was very sad to hear of his passing. My deepest sympathy to his family. 

George was in my squadron and a roommate for at least a semester.  He was 3 years older than most of us in the class of 63. He came from a small town in Kansas and said he played 6 man football in H.S. The first time he saw a dentist was when he joined the Air Force. George was a very determined individual. Studies did not come easy but hard work made him do well. He was the youngest of his family and an older brother retired from the Air Force about the time George became a second Lieutenant.
I was stationed in Kansas working on ICBM's and George was in Oklahoma in flight school. I drove down to see him and he said he was not doing well and had been given some check rides. But like schoolwork, he worked hard and gained his wings. 
Later we saw each other usually every 5 years at AFA reunions. That was where I met his wife Lily, and they made a nice couple. 
Then George got sick and we corresponded with our Christmas letters. He was busy keeping in shape and using his computer to invest. 
Sad to hear of his passing. He was a dear friend and accomplished much with hard work. 

George was a great guy to be around.  We were classmates at the Air Force Academy and in the same squadron for several years.  Enjoyed being with him several times when we were both graduate students at Stanford; he in Engineering and me in Business.  Also saw him at Academy reunions and met his wife Lily.  George was one of those persons, whom once you met,   you never forget.  All my sympathy to his family.

George was a classmate of mine and we were in 10th and 14th squadrons.  He was very industrious and worked hard at his studies.  I liked George and curiously when he was overseas in Southeast Asia he took a trip to Yokota AB and somehow got a date with the school teacher who I would eventually marry,
The Class of 1963 will remember him at our memorial services.  May peace be with his family and may God receive him in glory,.

I met George and Lily Barnes at Trilogy.   Lily enjoyed the swimming pool and George working out in the gym.   We attended the same church and I was their Deacon for six years.   In this time of sorrow, my thoughts, special prayers, love and concerns are with his family.   May you find healing in God’s tender embrace and in knowing others remember and care. George was a dear friend and valued USAFA Classmate whose friendship I treasured.  After Vietnam War service, he and I attended and graduated from Stanford University with graduate degrees enroute to becoming Instructors/Assistant Professors in the Engineering Mechanics Department at the Air Force Academy.   While at Stanford he and I studied and worked problem sets together.  He was extremely dedicated and hard working both at Stanford and at the Academy.  Some years later after we both retired from the Air Force, my wife, Maureen, and I met him and his wife, Lily, for dinner in Seattle and had a wonderful time.   We hoped to meet them again after my son, a USCG rescue pilot, was stationed at Astoria, OR, but sadly that did not happen.   Sincere condolences to Lily;  George was a devoted husband and a true friend to many of us.  The picture included is at the USAFA 50th Reunion in 2013 of George and Lily.
