

George Franklin Sheffer III passed away peacefully from cancer on August 30th in Hospice care. He is survived by his wife Jane, his children Luke and Christie, his son-in-law Scott and grandchildren Liam, Chloe and Ella; as well as his sister Joan and his sister-in-law Karen and her family.
George was born in Texas on December 9th, 1945, spent his youth in Hinsdale, Illinois and eventually settled in Colorado. He graduated from Wake Forest college and served as a first lieutenant in the Army.
He married Jane Hocutt, a native of North Carolina, whom he met at a Young Life camp in Colorado. With her support and the help of his father George Jr., he started the Dale House Project which served troubled youth in Colorado Springs for over fifty years.
George loved the outdoors. He and his friend Jim Koons climbed all of the Colorado fourteeners. He was a marathoner and enjoyed camping and biking throughout his life.
He was an life-long traveller, touring Europe as a teen, and later visiting Israel, Russia, and Greece. He was an avid reader and loved classical music. He was a Christian, sharing his faith with the kids at the Dale House and attending First Presbyterian Church.
He will be deeply missed by his family and by those to whom he ministered for so many years.
