Gregory “Allan” Wright, age 57, of Colorado Springs, CO, entered his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 27, 2023. Allan is preceded in death by his grandparents, Elvis and Pauline Wright, and C.L. “Loys” and Mildred Batton, and by his parents Kerry (2021) and Mildred Wright (2022).
Allan was born December 1, 1965 in Springhill, LA and lived in Mobile, AL and Pine Bluff, AR before moving to Mansfield, LA, where he met his devoted wife of 35 years, Eva “Claire” McGee. They were married on June 18, 1988, and this week marks 40 years of Allan and Claire knowing and dating one another. Additionally, Allan is survived by his son, United States Marine Corps Corporal Nathaniel Kerry Sergey Wright. For Allan, adopting Claire’s and his son Nathan was one of his greatest joys.
He is also survived by his brother, Eugene (Lisa) Wright of Arlington, TN, his sister, Judy (Bill) Low of Houston, TX, his sister-in-law, Kim (Gary) Ellington of Albany, GA, his sister-in-law, Sheila Mims and granddaughter Autumn of Colorado Springs, CO, his brother-in-law, Frank Mercer of Leesburg, GA, his sister-in-law, Trinchua (Keith) Dukes of Opelika, AL, and numerous treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Allan was a 1988 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. Upon commissioning, he served as an Intelligence Officer and eventually retired from the United State Air Force Reserve after serving on active duty for 11 years and an additional 11 years in the Air Force Reserve. Throughout his career, he earned two Master’s degrees, one in International Relations from Columbia University and one in Curriculum and Instruction from National-Louis University. Following his uniformed service, Allan continued serving his nation as a Systems Engineer with the MITRE Corporation for 24 years, where he supported the Defense Intelligence Agency, other parts of the Intelligence Community, multiple Combatant Commands, and most recently as Department Manager for United States Space Command and NORAD-US Northern Command.
He loved seeing the world with Claire and spending numerous cold, early morning hunting trips with his son Nathan. Additionally, Allan was recruited to play football by the United States Air Force Academy, and enjoyed playing and watching a variety of sports, especially the Kansas City Royals and the New Orleans Saints. Finally, Allan’s lifelong affinity for music led Claire and him to many concerts across the world.
Allan’s life was not defined by his work or his military service. His life was truly defined by his family, friends and most importantly, his relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ. At the age of 15, Allan placed his faith in Christ. He feared God and lived a life of submission and service to his Lord. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and most recently Interim Youth Pastor and Elder at Monument Hill Church.
It is impossible to summarize the incredible life of Allan Wright and the impact he had on those around him. He was full of kindness, patience, and humbleness and whole-heartedly invested in the lives of family and friends around him on a daily basis. It is no surprise that those who knew Allan are better for it and will continue to be impacted by the life of Allan Wright for years to come.
