

Harold Richard Thaete, age 94, went home to be with the Lord on October 17, 2011. He was a resident at Life Care Center of Colorado Springs. He was retired from Civil Service at Fort Carson after working there for 40 years. After retiring, he owned Carpet Jenny machine rental company.
Mr. Thaete was born September 10, 1917, in Lebanon, Kansas to Paul Thaete and Mary (Hansen) Thaete. He was married to Fanita (Faye) Johnson on May 29, 1944. He served three years in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II.
To quote his son-in-law, “He was the best example of what a man should be. He was a kind and gentle soul who never, to my knowledge, showed temper or held a grudge. He was an exemplary Christian in the way he lived, in what he did with his time and money. He was an exceptional family man, who loved his wife and children in every way possible.”
He is survived by his wife, Fanita, four daughters, Sharon (Carl) Flynn of Flippin, Arkansas, Luanne (Gary) Bell of Colorado Springs, Marlene (Robert) Graham of Papillion, Nebraska, Ruth (Steve) Picton of Colorado Springs, and his eldest brother, Eldor Thaete of Mountain Grove, Missouri. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and infant son and an infant granddaughter.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Swan Law Funeral Directors.
Memorial service will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church on October 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.
Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
