Harold “Hal” G. Weeres was born in Ft. Beck, Montana, on August 12, 1935 to Henry B. and Alice (Bruning) Weeres. He was the youngest of five children. After graduating from Malta High School, Hal joined the United States Air Force in April 1956 as a Veterinary Technician – Food and Drug Inspector. On April 8, 1961, Hal married Leah Hopkins at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. Hal and Leah had three children, Phyllis Yvonne and twins, Roger and Robert.
Upon retiring from the Air Force in July 1976 as a Master Sergeant, the family settled in Colorado Springs. In 1985, Hal began delivering mail for the United States Post Office. He worked for the post office until he retired in December 1997. Hal loved to spend his free time with his family and traveling with his wife, Leah. His hobbies included hunting, woodworking and watching his favorite football team, the Denver Broncos. Hal also spent many hours volunteering his time for local charities. Over the last several years those charities included, he volunteered at the Air Force Academy Clinic, School District 20, and Catholic Charities Marion House soup kitchen.
Hal is survived by wife, Leah; and children, Phyllis “Yvonne” Weeres, Roger Weeres (Bonnie), and Robert Weeres (Lisa); and grandchildren, Kayla Banzali (Anthony), and Kassie Weeres; and great grandson, Liam; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
A funeral service for Hal will be held Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 11 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the Catholic Charities Marion House or the Wounded Warrior Project.
