Helen A. Dillon, 88, of Colorado Springs, died August 11, 2013, at her home after a period of failing health. She was born in Simpson PA on December 6, 1924, to Stanislaw Banaszek and Loretta Bochinski. She was the fourth of five daughters, all of whom became RN's (Registered Nurses). She graduated from Fell Township High School in 1942. In 1945, she graduated from St. Mary's Hospital nursing program in Scranton PA. She worked in hospitals in Carbondale and Philadelphia PA, and Mercy Hospital in Denver CO.
She leaves behind her husband and friend of 65 years, Robert F. Dillon MD; loving sons Michael J. (Roxanne) Dillon of Colorado Springs, and Stephen J. Dillon of Englewood CO; precious grandchildren Michael J. III and Regina K. Dillon of Colorado Springs; and Elizabeth G. (Dillon) & Dominic Kiley of Ann Arbor MI and Christopher D. of Englewood CO.
Her parents and sister Mary Sitko of Simpson PA predeceased her. Helen was a 55-year parishioner of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, active in the charismatic prayer group, the Christopher’s Ministry, centering prayer and Jungian dreamwork. She continually took spiritual courses, especially at the Benet Hill Monastery. Her journey included daily recitations of the rosary. She was an avid golfer from her days at Fitzsimons Army Hospital to the Colorado Springs Country Club (1958 - 2007). She loved ice fishing at Skagway Reservoir and Colorado small-stream fishing in the summers. Her home was filled with canning jars for making preserves and jellies given to family and neighbors.
There will be no evening visitation or public viewing, at her request.
Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 927 N. Logan Ave, Colorado Springs CO, 80909. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care in Colorado Springs, or the American Cancer Society. A private inurnment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, at a later date.
