

Herman was born on May 23, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Herman and Margarete (Banzhaf) Hoggenmiller. He graduated Northeast High School in Philadelphia in 1945. Upon graduation, he felt a sincere obligation to serve his country, and joined the United States Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Mississippi during WWII and other ships during the Korean War. He married Ilse Topel on May 3, 1958.
After his honorable discharge, Herman attended the Rising Sun School of Aeronautics in Philadelphia to learn to become an aircraft and engine mechanic. He was later employed with Piasecki Helicopters and retired after working for 36 years at Boeing-Vertol Helicopters.
He was a member of the American Legion and was a devout Catholic and member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colorado Springs for 25 years. He loved reading, watching the news and reading the newspaper, and was especially interested in information of all kinds, especially history and current events. He and Ilse travelled extensively throughout the U.S. Above all, he cherished time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Ilse; his children: Eric (Ann) Hoggenmiller, Edith (Gary) Snyder, and Diane (Rob) Schiller; his grandchildren: Cheryl (Richard) Turner, Jill (Ben) Gandy, Robert Schiller, and Kiersten Schiller; three great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces, and his favorite puppy, Dutchess. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Margaret Murphy and Judy Melia.
A visitation and vigil will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 6455 Brook Park Drive. A Rosary will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment will occur at a future date.
