Hilda, was born on May 7th, 1939, in Vilsbiburg Germany to Martin and Theres Brandstetter. After the death of her father in WWII, her mother placed Hilda and her brother in an orphanage at a very young age, where they would return home on the weekends, allowing her mother to work during the week and provide for her family.
As a young woman, she met Ernest Lagasca, an American GI from Hawaii who was stationed in Munich. Following him to Texas, they were married in 1964. Over the next 8 years, they welcomed 3 sons into their family, Ernest Jr, Scott, and Robert. Being a military family, Hilda and her family lived in Germany 4 different times, Hawaii 2 times, Texas and Colorado, where Ernest retired from the military in 1979.
Hilda accepted a job at Western Forge in Colorado Springs, as a tool maker, making Craftsmen screwdrivers for 17 years before retiring. During that time, Hilda studied for and received her US citizenship. She became an “Oma” to 4 grandsons over the years, never missing an athletic event or activity.
In addition to spoiling her grandchildren, Hilda enjoyed Bingo, game shows, reading the newspaper, dinners with her family, and game days with her Single Sisters. Hilda never missed an opportunity to show generosity to those in need. Her children and grandchildren have been on the receiving end of her generous character numerous times.
Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Lagasca. She leaves behind her children Ernest Jr (Heidi) Lagasca of Colorado Springs; Scott Lagasca of Colorado Springs; Robert (Karen) Lagasca of Seattle, Washington; precious grandsons Tate, Taron, Grayson and Avery; brothers Heinrich and Rudy; niece Cornelia and great nephew Michael.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 4th, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Church of the Nazarene at 5055 El Camino Drive, Colorado Springs, 80918.
