She is survived by her three children, Jean Long of Colorado Springs, Colorado, John and his wife Honore Everly of Avon, Colorado, and Kelly and his wife Angie Everly of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by two sisters Donna Myers and Martha Prahl, both of Colorado Springs. She was a proud and loving Grandmother, fondly referred to as “Big G”, to 6 grandchildren Kristin, Philip, Dawn, Jessica, Gus and Sam and 3 great grandchildren Hailey, Leighton and Gavin; and a special step grandchild, Alexendria
Iris was born in New London Wisconsin on August 9, 1930. She moved to Colorado Springs with her parents and two sisters in February of 1950. Although she had a degree in cosmetology, she pursued a very successful career in accounting. In 1966, she started with the Broadmoor Hotel as a Front Desk Clerk and retired 30 years later as one of their top comptrollers.
Iris, also known as “The Great Flower”, was the keeper of many wild stories that happened at "The Old Broadmoor" as she referred to it, which she shared with her children and grandchildren. After retiring, a few of Iris's great joys was boarding the bus with all of her Broadmoor buddies and heading to Cripple Creek for a day of laughter and storytelling, and attending the Broadmoor Annual Christmas party accompanied by her former son in law, Scott Long. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held at Swan-Lake Funeral Directors 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO on Saturday October 17, 2015 at 10:00a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Iris's name to:
