He dug thousands of basements in Colorado Springs and El Paso County.
He knew his wife, Nina (Bevans), in high school and they reconnected in 1981. Irv and Nina were married October 29, 1982, in Colorado Springs and have lived in Calhan since. He took on the role of stepfather to Nina’s daughter, Jacki, and raised her like his own, teaching her valuable life lessons, determination and how to make people laugh.
Irv and Nina were members of Kit Carson Riding Club and Irv team roped for many years. He enjoyed heeling on the back of his favorite horse, Diamond. Irv was also an avid golfer and participated in Men’s and Senior leagues in Limon and Colorado Springs. Some of his best stories were about his tee times and golf trips with great friends. He was also an avid hunter, both large and small game. He hunted in Kansas, the western slope and the eastern plains. Special memories were captured with nephews, grandchildren and his son-in-law Steve. Irv worked countless hours in the fields cutting and bailing hay. He loved “playing in the dirt”. Friends and family alike said Irv was always the life of the party and if he wasn’t teasing and/or picking on someone, something was wrong.
