On May 10, 2021 Jack Richard Berckemeyer passed away at the age of 98. He almost made it to 99! Jack was a navy veteran of 20 years, proud father, husband, and grandfather. He married Sharon Marie (Emm) Berckemeyer in 1965. Jack is preceded in death by his wife Sharon and parents Henry and Lillian Berckemeyer. Jack is survived by his sons Scott H. Berckemeyer, (Maryann Berckemeyer), Colorado Springs, CO., Tommy Berckemeyer, Jack Charles Berckemeyer, Denver, CO., and grandson Barry Berckemeyer, Colorado Springs, CO.
Over the course of Jack’s 98 years, he lived in New York, Illinois, Marse- el Braga, Libya, Tehran, Iran, Port St Lucie Florida and Colorado Springs, CO. He belonged to the Polish National Alliance, Fleet Reserve Association, and the Destroyer Escort Historical Foundation.
Jack enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and always said being in the Navy was one of the best decisions he ever made. During his 20 years in the Navy, he fought in WWII and served on the USS Haas, McNair, Hopewell, and William M. Wood. He received various service awards including the Navy Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, United National Service Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. He was so proud to serve his country.
We will miss our letters from our Dad, his great dance moves and his laugh. We are thankful to Tina Furia, Colorado Springs, CO. who has been his “Gal Pal” for the last 8 years. Our family plans to honor our Dad later this summer in Streator, IL with a military service.
