

James Kingsbury Beatty, age 89, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024. He was born in Akron, Ohio on December 8, 1934 to Dr. C. M. Lloyd Beatty and Irene Kingsbury Beatty.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sue Stalder Beatty, three children; Kathy (Verolen) Kersey, Pam (Les) Crowder, and Jim (Kari Kennedy) Beatty, three grandchildren and six great grandsons. He is proceeded in death by his brother Allen Beatty, sister Phyllis Beatty Beiswenger, and a grandson Robert James Crowder.
He received an A.B. in Chemistry and a B.S. in Mathematics from Ohio University in 1956 and an M.S. in Mathematics in 1958.
In 1958, he started full time work as a Rocket Scientist in the Thiokol Research Laboratory in Maryland. In 1961 the family moved to California where James continued work on the Ballistic Missile Programs Minuteman and Peacekeeper at Space Technology Laboratories (TRW).
From an early age, James was an avid tennis player and amateur photographer. He also enjoyed hiking, camping, sailing, golfing, and travelling. In lieu of flowers, have a stiff drink and donate to the charity of your choice.
