It is with great sadness that the family of James Gregory Gomes, 90, from Woodland Park announces his passing after an extended battle with cancer on 9 December 2018. James was born in Uma Uma township of North Hilo, Hawaii to John Teixeira Gomes Jr. and Lillian Ayako Urakami.
James grew up in Hawaii and graduated High School in 1946. James then joined the United States Army in 1946. One of his first assignment was Germany where he met and married the love of his life, Mathilda Anna Stempfle in 1955, who preceded him in passing after 39 years of marriage. James has one son John Gomes who is married to Janet, who both reside in Woodland Park. He had one granddaughter Angela (Gomes) Morris who resides in Illinois with her husband Ryan and his two great grandchildren Elliana and Dexter.
James after proudly serving his country decided to call Colorado Springs home in 1965. James after serving his country took another job working civil service at Fort Carson for another 20 years. James was a kind hearted loving family man who touched many people with his generosity. He loved carving wood gardening and painting. He will be missed beyond words and now will be with the Lord.
There will be private services for family members at Dayspring Christian Fellowship Church, 1061 Rampart Range Road, Woodland Park, Co. on 5 Jan 2019, at 11:00am.
