“In my Father’s house are many rooms; If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” - John 14:2-3
Jim, as he was affectionately known to all, made his transition into the open arms of the Supreme Architect of the Universe the afternoon of June 5, 2026, from complications due to CBD Parkinson’s Disease. He is once again whole and able to clearly speak with those loved ones gone before.
Jim was born October 7, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to James Adams and Martha Ryland Jarvis. He grew up in Logan, Utah.
After high school Jim attended Utah State University, but got tired of going to school, so he enlisted in the Air Force, and spent the next several months going to school before being stationed overseas in Okinawa, Japan and then Taipei, Taiwan. He returned to the United States after the Air Force retired the airplane on which he worked. He again attended school to learn a new trade, computer maintenance, ending up stationed at NORAD, where he continued going to school to learn the equipment. This was not a bad thing since every time he went to school, this would “freeze” him so he could not be reassigned, prompting him to spend more than 10 years “behind the blast doors”. Due to his time at NORAD, he was reassigned to Air Force Space Command at Peterson AFB, where he spent another five years before retiring in August 1993. He continued writing tech manuals for civilian contractors just as he had done with Air Force Space Command, for another 21+ years; and as you probably guessed, continued attending school going to the University of Phoenix where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Information Systems.
Jim married Mary Kae Knight October 10, 1987, who survives along with their two daughters, Virginia of Colorado Springs and Amber of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by his two brothers, Bob, wife BK, of Bozeman, MT, and Ben, wife Mary, of Logan, UT; two nieces; a nephew; and many cousins.
Helen Keller once said, “What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” This was true of Jim and his passion for service to others, not only exemplified through his military service to his country, but also through everything he did as a 60+ year member of DeMolay International and 50+ year member of Freemasons & the Scottish Rite in Taipei, Taiwan, where he is a Life Member. Jim also holds Life Memberships with Fountain Valley Lodge #191 AF&AM; Centennial #58 and Snowflake #153, OES. Additionally, he served over 40 years with the International Order of Rainbow for Girls in CO; was also associated with Job’s Daughters International; and volunteered with the local Foster Care Association for several years. He is also a member of Meridian Point Christian Church, Peyton, CO. His passion for the Masonic Youth caused Jim and Mary Kae to meet, where they not only shared a passion for working with the Masonic Youth but fell in love doing so.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
- Matthew 5:4
