

James A. Jones, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and U.S. Navy Veteran passed away at his residence on November 11, 2011 in Peyton, Colorado. He was born April 8, 1938, in Fayetteville, North Carolina to the late Ruby G. (Odom) and James A. Jones. He was a 34 year resident of Colorado and had lived in the Peyton area for over 20 years.
Mr. Jones was married to his beloved, Jo Ann Brown, on October 13, 1962. “Momma” as she was so affectionately known, predeceased him on May 31, 2001.
AMS1 Jones served twenty years with the United States Navy as a welder. He served aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Ranger during the late 1950’s to early 1960’s. He proudly served in Vietnam with the HAL 3, Det 4, U.S. Navy Seawolf unit as a helicopter door gunner. Mr. Jones earned the following combat decorations: Air Medal with 31 strikes. Navy Commendation Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and Combat “V”, Cross of Gallantry-RV, Vietnam Service Medal (4), Presidential Unit Citation.
James is survived by three loving daughters, Kellie (Glenn) West recently of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Cory (Russ) Tyson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Sharon (Don) Foutz of Colorado Springs, Colorado and one son, Frank (Birgit) Fabian of Germany, his precious grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole, Donald Elijah, Riley, Janine, Amelie and Madleen also great-grandchildren, Chloe and Sadie. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Mattie J. (W.B.) Bullock of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and brother, Lewis E. Jones of Allen, Texas as well as numerous nieces, nephews, “in-laws” and “outlaws”.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Swan-Law Cascade Chapel, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Seawolf Education Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
