James was known for his kind heart, humor, compassion, and loyalty. From the very beginning, he carried a spirit that could not be ignored — adventurous, curious, loud with laughter, and overflowing with love. James didn’t just walk into a room; his energy filled the space completely. His energy buzzed from him out into the universe, he always had exciting news to share, stories, or jokes and he always had to share them at the speed of an auctioneer, ensuring everyone was attentively listening in an effort to not miss a single detail, boredom did not exist in James’s presence.
James was an old soul wrapped in a young body — tender-hearted, fiercely loyal, and deeply protective of the people he loved. He believed in standing up for what was right and carried a compassion that showed in the way he gave of himself so freely. He loved big, helped without hesitation, and made people feel safe and seen in his presence.
He enjoyed fishing, hiking, and camping, anything that allowed him to be outside. Activities that included getting outside to enjoy nature spent with his friends, family and dog Stella were what fed his soul. Above all James loved time with his son Shane. Playing games, dressing the same, teaching him how to box, riding a bike, and sharing elaborate handshakes that included knuckles, high fives, and fist bumps.
James loved his family. He leaves behind his parents Bill & Sharon Von Vett; his beloved sisters, Skyler & Whitney Von Vett; his soulmate, Angel Loggins; and his cherished three-year-old son, Shane Von Vett, who was the light of his life. Becoming a father gave James a sense of purpose and joy unlike anything else. He wanted nothing more than to be a good dad, a devoted partner, and a protector for the little family he adored.
Though James was surrounded by love, he quietly battled struggles that few understood. The heartbreak of losing him is beyond measure, but our family hopes that sharing this truth encourages greater compassion, understanding, and awareness of the invisible challenges so many face.
True to the selfless person he was, James's final gift was one of profound generosity. Through organ donation, he chose to give others the opportunity for more time, more memories, and more life. In this way, a part of James continues, his kindness extending far beyond his years and leaving a lasting impact on the world.
