Jean Hudspeth

Margery “Jean” Scheiter Hudspeth, age 87, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on September 28, 2012.

Jean was born on October 1, 1924, in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Edwin Keyl and Alice McDonald Scheiter. Jean graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in Decatur, Illinois and earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi.

Jean was previously married to Lt/Col Roy Hudspeth, USAF, (Ret). As a military wife, Jean spent many years traveling the world and was stationed in Japan, France, and many locations throughout the United States. Many of Jean’s endeavors included volunteering to help military families, from knitting baby blankets and sweaters for young military families to spending many hours in the Peterson Field Thrift Shop.

Although Jean and her family settled in Colorado Springs in 1964, Jean continued traveling the world with family and friends. She particularly loved visiting France and Africa. She also toured many other countries, including Russia and China, as well as several European and South American countries.

With an eye for detail and a flair for style, Jean started her own interior design/decorating business, and many homes in Colorado Springs showcase her excellent taste. Friends from Illinois and family in Alaska and Oregon often sought her advice on their homes.

Jean had a passion for learning and reading, enjoyed the theatre and often traveled to Denver with friends and family to see plays. Jean was an early member of the Colorado Springs Country Club where she enjoyed golfing and her weekly Bridge group.

Jean is survived by her sons and their families, David and Tisha Hudspeth of Anchorage, Alaska, and Mark and Sara Hudspeth of Portland, Oregon. She also leaves her grandchildren, Sarah (Hudspeth) Kappelman, Keyl Hudspeth, Lottie Hudspeth, Gloria Davis and Audrey Jean Hudspeth.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Sarah “Sally” (Hudspeth) Guthrie, as well as her former husband.

Jean’s family would like to thank all her friends and caregivers who gave her love and support, especially during recent times.

Jean filled her life and those around her with love, adventure and humor. She will be dearly missed.
